9-14-05 - New Programmers Found
Since I began looking for more programmers, I've had a great turnout of interested people. I'd like to thank everyone who expressed interest and I'd also like to welcome four new people to the project. I've already enjoyed working with some of you and look forward to working with the others. For those of you interested in learning a little more about the newcomers, take a look at this forum post.
9-09-05 - Help Wanted
Over the past month or so the project has fallen in to a stalemate. People are going to be occupied during the year and I am needing people to help out.
If you are good with graphics, whether web-oriented or game animations, I could definately use your help. Likewise if you know C++ well and are eager to create a game similar to Zelda, send me an email. Experience creating games is a plus but an eagerness to learn will suffice. Please let me know!
7-26-05 - First Milestone
Our first milestone - what I'm calling version 0.01 - was completed. It encompasses a sprite being displayed on the screen that moves about in response to arrow keys. This involves the basic cooperation of basic structures to handle rendering, input, and image loading.
7-16-05 - More Web Design Changes
As you probably noticed if you've been here before, I've changed things up quite a bit. I'd like to incorporate this design into the wiki and forum for better flow, but doing so will not be easy. At any rate, please stop by the forum and let me know what you think. A timeline has been added to document significant progress. The about page has been updated to reflect a better understood project purpose.
7-12-05 - Development Status
Programming efforts began today. This means that it should not be but a week or so before there is an initial release, which will probably consist of a window on the screen with some stuff that can move around.
7-08-05 - Wiki
Discussions have been well under way and the game's infrastructure is being pieced together at an impressive pace. I have added a wiki in order to help centralize this infrastructure and help conceptualization for developers.
7-03-05 - Forums
I have installed a popular bulletin board package from www.phpBB.com. Sourceforge offers their own forums, but I felt it very necessary for unregistered users to comment. Currently the forum uses the default layout and graphics, but I intend to give it a better look in the future. The link on the left has been updated to point to the new forums. Please stop by and give any feedback you may have. Or spam the forums with mindless banter, either will make me happy.
6-29-05 - Sourceforge
I struck gold today as Sourceforge opted to host The Dirty South project. Forums are now available as well as downloads, a summary, and many other features, including this webspace. This hosting is a crucial step forward for the project. 6-28-05 - Site Changes
I've made a number of changes to the website; hopefully its slightly more appealing. I will continue to work on it in anticipation of a larger project. Currently no one has expressed interest in helping. If sourceforge accepts my project registration, things will move more smoothly.
6-27-05 - Assistance Needed
The Dirty South has been a great learning experience and has (arguably) come a long way. But the project was doomed from the beginning by a complete lack of foresight. As such, it is about time to start over, beginning with a conclusive planning stage.
A game like this requires dedicated programmers, artists, and level designers. If you wish to contribute to this project, by all means, let me know. I hope to expand the project to contain about three c++ coders and at least two enthusiastic artists. In the future I may wish to hunt down a good webmaster (you don't like my website?) but for now I just want to get a small team of people and plan everything out.
